Halfrek Wins 2 FTOPs Events

FullTiltPoker.comMost poker players dream of winning just 1 poker tournament, but Full Tilt Poker player Halfrek has decided its better to be greedy than dream.  Last week Halfrek took down not just 1, but TWO FTOPs events at Full Tilt Poker.

Halfrek started his winning streak off on the 12th when he took down the $1k NLHE event for $342k.  Then, on May 18th he outlasted the competition in the $2500 NLHE event winning $517k!

That’s $859,000 in under one week!  I wish I could find a job that paid that much money.

Halfrek’s lifetime earnings on Full Tilt Poker are now up to $884,000 with this win, and we can probably expect a lot more from this player now that he has the bankroll to compete in many more of the biggest online poker tournaments.

Halfrek is the first player to ever win 2 FTOPs events in one year.  Contratulations!

Kimberly Lansing - Next WPT Host?

Kimberly Lansing MontellNow that Layla Kayleigh has announced that she will be leaving the WPT, fans are left wondering if Kimberly Lansing (seen on the left with former TV Host turned poker player: Montell Williams) will step in to take her place.

God, we hope so! Lansing’s videos have always been great to watch as she is always upbeat and looking so damn good.

When Kimberly is not working for the WPT she works as a freelance journalist for magazines such as InStyle and People. She has also been seen several times interviewing stars on the Hollywood red carpet.

Lansing isn’t just a reporter, but actually plays poker too. Her best finish to date was 8th of 445 at the Commerce Casino WPT Invitational in March of 2008. Unfortunately only the top 6 positions paid, so she did not make any money from this finish.

Anyway, let this be a plea to the WPT… MAKE KIMBERLY THE NEXT HOST!

I’ll end this whiny post with a video of Kimberly Lansing playing on the beach at the WPT Event in Turks and Caicos:

Bluffing in Online Poker… Is It Worth It?

When players first start playing online poker they think that bluffing is one of the most important parts of the game.  This couldn’t be more wrong.  Though it is important when done at the right time, over-bluffing can cause you to lose a lot of money.  Here are some tips on when and how to use bluffing effectively:

Position - Bluffing from early position is very dangerous.  You have players that still have to go after you, and you haven’t seen any indication as to whether they have made a hand.  If you are going to bluff, wait for a hand that gets checked around to you in later position.  Throw in a small bet and see if you can take down a decent pot.

Stakes - Bluffing in low stakes is pretty useless.  If you are gonna bluff, do it in a game where it makes it a harder decision for players to call.  Players will be more likely to call if its only for a few dollars.

Tight or Loose Table - If the table is very loose, chances are your bluff will get called on a loose table.  Tighter tables will be less likely to make calls and are easier to bluff at.

Outs - If you are gonna bluff early in a hand it is good if you have some outs.  This is known as a semi-bluff as even if you get called you still have a chance to improve on the turn or the river.

Table Image - If you are known at the table as a player that makes crazy bets, or bluffs a lot, then STOP.  Build an image as a tight-passive player and there will be better chances that the other players will respect your bets.

Bluffing shoud only be used once you can consistently win at a table without it.  Once you have perfected this, pick your spots, know your opponents and try to take a stab at big pots with a bluff.

Good luck!

Justin Bonomo Joins Bodog

Justin “ZeeJustin” BonomoBodog made their latest signing today when they added Justin Bonomo to their team (better known as ZeeJustin online). Bonomo was regarded as one of the best online players a few years ago until allegations of cheating surfaced. Bonomo responded to the allegations after Party Poker closed six accounts that were all in Bonomo’s name.

In his response back to Party Poker, ZeeJustin stated: “Yes, it’s true. I did use these accounts to enter multiple accounts in the same multi table tournaments. I have never done this in a tournament with less than 1,000 players.” Later in his response he went on to add, “I have been at the same table as myself. For what it’s worth, my standard protocol has been to increase my number of tables when this happens”, confirming that he did not see what he was doing as wrong.

Bonomo is off to a decent start this year playing live tournaments. He has cashed for over $200,000 which include an 8th place at the WPT Borgata event where he won $135k and most recently a 5th at the Ceasars Palace $5,150 No Limit Hold’em where he brought home $70k.

“Justin is one of the most feared and skilled players in poker today and we’re thrilled to officially have him join our team of world-class poker pros,” stated Alwyn Morris (CEO of Morris Mohawk Gaming Group, who license and promote the Bodog brand in North America), “Justin lives and breathes the Bodog lifestyle and is a perfect fit for us. We expect him to make a lot of noise this year for Team Bodog, beginning with the WSOP this summer.”

“I’m extremely excited about joining the select ranks of Team Bodog pros and becoming an ambassador for the Bodog brand alongside David, Evy and Jean-Robert. I know each of them personally and have tremendous respect for them,” Bonomo said. “I’m ready to start things off right by having a big WSOP this summer and hopefully bringing home a gold bracelet for Team Bodog. I’m also looking forward to meeting up with other poker players from around the world at Bodog’s online poker tables.”
