Poker In Germany Making Strides In Social Acceptance.
Advocates of the game of poker in Germany are doing their best to make it more socially acceptable and common for German people. Boris Becker, a millionaire, has come back to help promote the poker room and make it more mainstream.
“Nine years after retiring from his professional tennis career, millionaire Boris Becker is cashing in on aces once again. He’s become the spokesman in a high-profile ad campaign for a poker Web site.
Becker isn’t the only celebrity to lend his face to an industry that’s trying to polish up its image and increase its social acceptability. Bayer Leverkusen soccer club has also done ads for an online poker company.” – Source
According to Yearbook Addicts 2008, over 300,000 Germans admit to playing poker regularly every year, with that number rising. Gambling in Germany is really only allowed in the casinos but so far nobody has been charged in this supposed grey area.
