“Bond 18” Shoots for WPT Raw Deal
WPT Raw Deal is a popular recurring TV segment where poker and poker players are bared more completely than in a full physical. Its 9th season will start to shoot in October 2010. In June 2010, WPT announced that they were looking for a new host for Raw Deal. The requirement was being the “most brutally honest poker analyst” and the lure was the “chance to share the screen with the stunning WPT Royal Flush Girls”.
This week WPT announced that debonair dresser, poker pro and respected blogger Tony “Bond18” Dunst has been named the host of The Raw Deal. WPT Executive Producer Joe Grimm said, “Tony is smart, knows the game, has had success in poker and has an irreverent streak. There were a number of tremendously talented individuals who auditioned for the Raw Deal, but Tony stood out for his candor, his knowledge and his delivery. He’s going to have a big impact on the broadcast. He may ruffle some feathers, but he wasn’t brought in to be Mr. Nice Guy.”
Dunst may not be Mr. Nice Guy but he has looks to kill for. The suit wearing lady charmer is as suave as his namesake James Bond and derives his moniker from the super spy. If Raw Deal has a female audience they will love him. The male of the species would have preferred Clonie Gowen, who narrowly lost out, or eternal favorite poker babe Lacey Jones.
Dunst, whose greatest claim to fame so far is the 50th spot in the 2010 WSOP Main Event, is looking forward to the opportunity to increase his visibility in the poker world. So far he is more known as an online player, which really does not get the limelight. Dunst got hooked on online poker when he followed his girlfriend to Shanghai. Since he had no friends there and could not speak Mandarin there was little else for him to do. Dunst said, “For years, I watched the WPT every week and memorized the final hands, then would pick apart the strategy. … The WPT has given me carte blanche to be myself. I’ll be as candid, blunt, and absurd as I like; a sweet deal, and I’m honored they choose me.”
Meanwhile there is no news from the other big poker hunt – that of Poker Playboy for Victory Poker.
