How To Balance College and Poker
The old story of a bright college student turned poker player and college dropout was brought to the big screen years ago in the movie Rounders. Although it was a movie, it touched on a very important issue for student poker players. If you aren’t careful, poker can quickly take over your life and school goes down the drain. Balancing college and poker is not easy, but it can be done.
Here are a few tips to help balance your school work and late night poker sessions:
* When you get work assigned such as an essay or a project, do it right away. First of all, you will feel absolutely great finishing the project in the first day or two. Since lots of students usually wing it in the last 1-2 days, all the while worrying about finishing it. It will not help your poker game if you are constantly thinking about a college essay that is due. It will help your poker game if you accomplish your projects early and have a clear mind at the poker table.
* After a long and late session, do not try to go to sleep and then wake up for an early class. If it’s within a few hours and you really need to make it, just pull an all nighter.
* Don’t talk about poker with your non-poker college friends. They don’t give a shit, and some of them will think you have a gambling problem if you are like most degenerates and miss half your classes (while still passing by a hair).
* Do NOT fall into irregular eating patterns. It is so easy to get your eating patterns messed up (we already assume your sleeping patterns are toast) while playing poker and going to college. You can easily eat too much or eat too little and either one is very harmful to your body (and your game). Eat well, your body and mind will thank you during long poker sessions.
Some people may say, why even go to poker if I’m making good cash at the poker tables? That is a valid argument for many, but also remember those are famous last words. Your bankroll is never absolute, you can run bad or even get sick of poker and need something to fall back on. Whatever you choose to do, it is nice to have a college degree/experience to remember and fall back on if needed.
