Johnny Chan on Reality TV
Poker babes have been known to make is big on reality television. The inseparable Tiffany Michelle and Maria Ho made waves in the Amazing Race. Beth Shak is doing Millionaire Matchmaker. Annie Duke almost topped Celebrity Apprentice selling cup cakes in New York. Now it is the turn of the guys. Rumor has it, and it will be a rumor till the show goes on air, that Johnny Chan will be in Season 22 of Survivor.
Survivor is one of the most popular shows on reality television and has been running for about 20 years. A group of contestants are taken to the wilderness and made to compete in weird tasks and voted out one by one till the Survivor remains. One of the skills required to survive is not to draw too much attention because the ones who make the most noise are usually the ones votes out first. And Chan is a master at that. He has 10 WSOP bracelets, only one less than Phil Hellmuth, and not a whisper of a controversy. So now his fans will see him wallowing in filth or eating bugs instead of taking in pots at the poker table.
The story behind the rumor is more exciting than the rumor itself. It begins in early summer with rumors of a poker pro shooting for Survivor. But no names are out. Then on July 29 Chan posts a message on Twitter that says, “Going on vacation with family for a few weeks…time to relax and take a break!” This did sound funny because WSOP Europe happened at that time and it was not like Chan to give it a miss. There was no post from Chan during his vacation. On October 3, Chan was back in action on Twitter with a message, “Vacation was good. Now time to get back to work!” By then everyone could figure out that the missing days coincided with the shooting of Survivor in San Juan del Sur in Nicaragua. Seasons 21 and 22 were shot back to back and if the rumors are true then Chan will be in Season 22 that goes on air next year. Another reason for believing the rumors is that Chan has not denied them.
