Barcelona EPT Day 1A Wrap Up
Day 1A at the Barcelona stop of the European Poker Tour has now concluded and while there are no superstars on the list, Glen “Choron” Chorny is hanging tough in 10th place. Chorny has been pegged as a serious contender to become the next poker superstar however with his victory last year at the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final. For his efforts at that event Chorny took home a cool 3 million dollars. Only 21,500 behind the leader Michael Bernhard Murra from Germany, Chorny is a great spot to charge his way through another EPT field.
Close behind Murra is Jason Mercier with 79,300 chips. Hailing from the United States Mercier had three cashes at this years WSOP and is also a defending EPT Champion, winning the San Remo tournament for 1.3 million. Amongst several other EPT veterans who have cashed in years past, Chad Brown is also in the hunt. Keeping pace with the leaders he’s sitting with a stack of 61,700 chips. Chad is an ex-Hollywood actor turned poker pro who has proven over the years he’s more than a talent just on the screen.
Play resumes today for the 1B field that includes big names like Daniel Negreanu and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, who recently showed up at an event painted up the “Joker” character played by the late Heath Ledger in Batman. No word on yet on whether he’s going to wear any face paint today.
This event will wrap by Sunday when a new Champion is minted from this very prestigious European event. Once dominated the Americans, it certainly appears this year that the Euro contingent is playing their A game. Stay tuned tomorrow for our Day 1B follow up.
The Top 10 chip positions follow:
1. Michael Bernhard Murra (Germany), 87,000
