Glycerin Tears Get Tzvetkoff Bail?

28 year old Australian national Daniel Tzvetkoff was arrested on April 17 in Las Vegas on charges of illegally processing online poker payments. At his bail hearing on April 23 Tzvetkoff was granted bail against all expectations.

Tzvetkoff’s legal team headed by Robert Goldstein took recourse to glycerin tears … well almost. Tzvetkoff was described as a good young man, a devoted father to a three year old boy and a committed partner to an eight-month pregnant fiancée Nicole Crisp. The case could take two years and being out on bail would enable Tzvetkoff to be with his fiancée and children at a time they needed each other the most. Tzvetkoff’s father chipped in with his contribution to the sob story. He put up his USD 1.17 million Brisbane home as surety and said that he was aware that he would lose his home if his son skipped out of the country. Tzvetkoff standing in a khaki prison jumpsuit with his feet shackled also created a sympathetic picture. Goldstein argued at the hearing, “Daniel is not the kind of person who should be locked up in jail for a year or two.” Tzvetkoff was not facing drug or robbery charges and had no previous criminal record whatsoever.

Judge Peggy A Leen of the US District Court said after listening to the prosecution, “If he was a US citizen this would be a no-brainer. He would be released.” Therefore despite all the arguments put up by prosecutor Nicholas Dickinson Tzvetkoff was given bail, though on stiff conditions.

Meanwhile the online poker industry is divided on sympathy for Tzvetkoff. Half support him for fighting against the UIGEA and half are against him for taking the online poker rooms for a ride.
