Police Arrest Then Release Suspect in EPT Robbery

AP is reporting that Berlin Police arrested then released a suspect in connection with the EPT Robbery just over 1 week ago.  The suspect was arrested last Friday night in connection with the crime where criminals walked into the Grand Hyatt hotel in broad daylight while the poker tournament was going on, making away with approximately 240,000 Euros in prize money.

A spokeswoman for the Berlin Police who chose to remain nameless stated to the media that: “The suspect had been set free due to a lack of evidence. The suspect, who was detained late Friday, denied throughout several hours in questioning having taken part in the heist at the Grand Hyatt hotel in the capital.”

The police would not give any information about the identity of the suspect and continue following up on leads related to the crime.  Several images were captured of the suspects fleeing the scene after the robbery which is believed to be the best evidence the police currently have.

The crime has also made the Top 10 list of most brazen crimes on Time.com in the 10th position.  Other crimes in this list include the Great Train Robbery, The Brinks Headquarters Robbery and The Robbery of the Mona Lisa back in 1911.

Even though the tournament faced this huge setback, the game played on and in the end Kevin “ImaLuckSac” MacPhee ended up winning the 1 Million Euro prize.
