Negreanu Issues PokerStars Invitation

In a complicated and weirdly worded blog, David Negreanu has invited one and all to play with him online at PokerStars. The invite ended with the line “The donkey from that GSN show has fallen into your lap and is prepared to pad your bankroll.” Translated into understandable language the invitation said that since he is a lousy poker player it would be easy to take money off him.

The genesis of the invitation lay in the Season 6 of High Stakes Poker, which is broadcast by the cable television network GSN. In this high profile cash games series Negreanu was no match for younger players who probably grew up watching him play. Negreanu was not only consistently beaten by players like Tom Dwan, Phil Ivey, and Patrik Antonius, but made to look foolish. The playing by the gut-feel approach of Negreanu was no match for the cold statistical approach adopted by the younger players.

Negreanu has an awesome reputation and he wants to keep it that way. His over $12 million live tournament earnings put him at number two on that list. Negreanu figured out what Dwan, Ivey and Antonius were doing differently from him. The three lived online poker, ate online poker and drank online poker. Therefore Negreanu has decided to immerse himself in online poker in an attempt to revamp his cash games play. It is to Negreanu’s credit that at his age he is willing to accept his shortcomings and is prepared to learn. Many other pros of his stature would have written off the High Stakes Poker losses at bad luck. Though online players may line up at PokerStars just to be at the same table as Negreanu, only the foolish will believe that they can take money off him.
