Pokerstars Ante Up For Africa Tournament – Save Darfur
Pokerstars is once again providing humanitarian relief in war stricken country of Darfur, Sudan. Pokerstars.com announced today that they will once again host a series of events leading up to the inaugural Ante Up For Africa charity poker tournament. The event will not only showcase some of the poker rooms leading stars such as Daniel Negreanu and Joe Hachem, but will once again include celebrities.
The Ante Up For Africa charity poker tournament is a worthwhile cause and will raise funds and awareness for the ongoing crisis in Darfur Sudan. The charity poker tournament will take place on April 27, and every single penny raised will go to various organizations such as the Not on Our Watch and Enough. Both of the not-for-profit organizations provide necessary aid and treatment for the victims of Darfur who suffer from AIDS, starvation, homelessness, abuse and of course the ramifications from living in a war torn country.
The winner of the AUFA poker tournament will receive a 2010 Pokerstars Caribbean package. Players who want to win their seat to the Main Event and help Darfur can do so by entering into one of the the AUFA qualifiers available only at Pokerstars. Additionally, Pokerstars has also said that any player who have received their seat into the EPT Monte Carlo event via Pokerstars satellites will also receive a seat into the AUFA freeroll final. The Ante Up for Africa freeroll final is scheduled to take place on April 19th at 15:30 EST with two seats (valued at $1,000 each) guaranteed into the main event.
Ante up For Africa qualifiers are located in the Pokerstars lobby -> Tourney -> Regional
This is the second charitable event Pokerstars has hosted with all proceeds raised to assist the Darfur crisis. In 2007 Pokerstars ran a massive promotion, “Ocean’s Thirteen”. That event alone raised more than $1,000,000 for Darfur and was donated to the NOOW (Not On Our Watch) charity. The NOOW charity was created by the stars of Oceans Thirteen, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, and producer Jerry Weintraub. The organization provides financial aid to the victims of Darfur.
For those who don’t know Darfur, Sudan is in genocide. With years of drought and a decade of war more than 400,000 people have been brutally slaughtered and over 3,000,000 left homeless, including children who are starving to death. These people rely on the financial assistance of groups like NOOW. If you would like to participate in the Pokerstars charity poker tournament you can visit them here, or you can make a donation for the charity by sending support an email.
Likewise you can also visit the NOOW website and make a donation direct. April is Genocide Prevention Month and we would like to thank Pokerstars for being socially responsible and encourage everyone to either participate in the Ante Up For Africa charity poker tournament, or make a donation to help those in Darfur.
