Pokerstars Breaks Own World Record
Back in July of 2009 Pokerstars and Full Tilt Poker were battling back and forth to be home to the Guinness Record for largest player field in an online poker tournament. Unfortunately back then, both of these poker sites were putting caps on the number of players that could enter so we never saw the true potential each site had. Well, this past weekend Pokerstars took the cap off and let an unlimited number of players play in a $1+0 tournament with a $300,000 Guaranteed prize pool.
They took off late registration for this specific tournament as well, just to ensure that nobody would complain about any potential unfair advantages in the World Record attempt. When it was all said and done, 149,196 players competed for the $300,000 prize which was more than half money put in by Pokerstars themselves. This shattered the previous record of just 65,000. Over 20% of the field made it to the money, but there could only be one winner. The player to take down this massive tournament was oskar69, who prior to this game had his biggest cash in an $11 180-man SNG for about $500.
Here is the breakdown of the final table:
1. oskar69 — $50,000
2. Bommel222 — $30,000
3. TLWPB — $20,000
4. willis59 — $10,000
5. kruglay — $8,000
6. madmick62 — $6,500
7. DS1982 — $5,250
8. denmil53 — $4,000
9. bigsnapper7 — $3,000
