Pokerstars Where Is The Innovation!

A few days ago I wrote about Full Tilt Poker’s new innovating game called Rush Poker.  In the past few days this got me thinking to how Pokerstars was going to respond.  Would they try and buy rights to the game for Pokerstars or could they try and come up with something similar, or even better?

No matter how you look at it, Rush Poker is going to be a HUGE money maker for FTP.  When players go from playing an average of 50 or so hands per hour to well over 300 they just instantly increased the amount of rake they are making massively.  Other sites are definitely going to take a look at this and see what they can do to speed the game up even more and a giant like Pokerstars must be hitting themselves thinking why didn’t we come up with something like that.

One area I think that Pokerstars needs to pick it up a little on is their innovation.  I can’t even think of the last groundbreaking thing that Pokerstars has done in online poker other than hosting record breaking tournaments.  Their game really hasn’t changed much on the site in ages, other than maybe adding a few more variations of poker.  I can’t believe that with the amount of money they have over there that they don’t have a department focussed on coming up with new innovative ideas.

Full Tilt has definitely proved that they are steps ahead on the innovation front with this latest development of Rush Poker and also their Matrix Sit N Go’s (which for the record I still don’t understand, but at least its different).

Pokerstars are leaving huge holes in their business for new companies to step in and take away some of their market share.

So what could the future hold?

I don’t really know, and if I did I would probably be a millionaire.  Some things I could see in the future are more focus on making the game more realistic.  Sites like PKR have done this somewhat, but there is still a ton of room for growth in this area.  We could eventually see things like live dealers (which many online casino’s have started to use), more player interaction (ie. video or audio added tables) and who knows what else!  It would be cool to see some new games invented that are similar to Texas Holdem or Omaha, that players could learn easily and become very popular.

After playing poker online for almost 6 years I have to admit I am getting a little bored of it all.  It would be nice if some of these companies started using their heads more and coming up with some really cool innovation for the game we all love!
