UB Still Making Waves
The exit of Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth from UB created such a splash in the poker world that the ripples are still being felt a week later, and will perhaps continue to do so for some time to come.
Daniel Negreanu is an old time adversary of UB. When the super user scandal broke out at UB Negreanu was the first one to say “I told you so”. On the occasion of Annie’s and Hellmuth’s departure from UB Negreanu put up his pet peeve on his blog again. He wrote, “When they first launched I was offered an opportunity to invest in the company. We were all told that Russ Hamilton would not be investing or involved. He has a checkered past and everyone knew he was a scumbag. I decided not to take the risk by investing, but others did only to find out that Russ was an investor and also a big part of the company.”
Undeterred by Negreanu’s rants, UB announced its first changing face of poker. Prahlad Friedman, who is often called the original online poker pro, has signed up with UB. It is common knowledge that Friedman took one of the biggest hits in the super user scandal. But the new management of the beleaguered online poker room ensured that Friedman received every cent back. Friedman is satisfied that UB has made amends and is clean. As for Russ Hamilton, Friedman says that his karma will get him even if he escapes the law. A large part of Friedman’s earnings from UB will go to charity. Negreanu has accused Friedman of going over to the dark side and the new UB ambassador has responded with mystic restraint. He said, “We’re both fellow vegans, which is cool. I think it’s great to have a couple of vegans at the top of their respective sites. His opinions are his opinions and I guess mine are mine.”
Meanwhile poker babes Tiffany Michele and Maria Ho are continuing their good work at UB. They are pairing up for a poker fund raiser on Sunday January 9. UB will match the total funds raised by players, and donate the proceeds to Miles for Miracles, a new program that raises money for Spinal Cord Research.
