Annie Duke to Get Hitched
It is common knowledge that Annie Duke has for long been in a live-in relationship with Joe “Ugly” Reitman. But that is nowhere near the same thing as being engaged. So it came as a pleasant surprise to the poker world when Annie revealed their engagement.
Twitter has become the new universal medium of communication. No, the proposal was not Tweeted but the news of the proposal was. Annie’s Tweet read, “I said yes! I am still shaky. Total surprise from Joe Ugly. I am the luckiest woman ever. Best man on earth. I am so in love. Sigh. So Joe Ugly put the ring in the bottom of my stocking instead of the traditional chocolate orange. Sneaky! But now I’m pissed that I didn’t get a chocolate orange this year! Freaking Joe Ugly.” The Tweet was accompanied by a picture of Annie showing off her new diamond ring while sitting on Reitman’s lap. Reitman’s status has now changed from live-in boyfriend to fiancé.
Duke and Reitman have been dating since 2005 when they were introduced to each other by a mutual friend. Both have been married before. Reitman’s first wife was actor and poker babe Shannon Elizabeth. Annie was married to Ben Duke in 1991 and has four children from him, all of whom are living with her. Why did it take Reitman five years to pop the question? Annie is silent on that one. Also Annie will continue to sport her surname of Duke for a further unspecified period because no wedding date has been set. Would she become Mrs. Reitman after the wedding? Only time will tell.
Reitman is an actor producer but how good is he at poker? He has had minor cashes at WSOP but his crowning glory was winning UB.com’s $1 Million Guarantee in 2006. One may well ask what Annie has done outside the world of poker. She almost made it to the top of Celebrity Apprentice once where she boasted “I give a mean blow job.”
All friends in the poker industry have sent in their congratulations. Tiffany Michelle added “Love it! It’s about freakin’ time!” Others include “Hollywood” Dave Stann, Liv Boeree, Joe Sebok and Samantha Ryan. The proposal was made and accepted on Christmas Day.
