The WPT Grande de Paris at the Aviation Club is in full swing. At the time of writing 25 players were in the fray for the title from a starting field of 247. There will not be any tears shed for those who have been knocked out, except for Isabelle Mercier … and for good reasons. Both Isabelle and WPT have early roots at the Aviation Club and she was a sentimental favorite to win when the tournament returned to this venue. 2010 is being touted at The Year of the Woman and it would have been great to have a female winner at a major event before the WSOP jamboree begins. And Isabelle is a hot Pokerbabe and it is much more fun having her pictures splashed across Internet poker forums than those of grim faced males.
Isabelle has taken her ouster stoically. No flow of mush in her Tweet. In a very matter of fact way she messaged, “Ended up yesterday night with 35K and a dead iphone battery… Restarted today at 3pm and busted out shortly after a bad hand where i raised with 7 8 suited, flopped QQ7, turned a flush draw, and ended up with my pocket 7s against my opponent’s Q8… Had about 1K left after that hand.. Busted ” This message drew very contrary responses from her fans. Larry Byrnes encouraged her to put this behind her and make amends at WSOP. “Go get ‘em at the WSOP!” he urged. Ed Marek compared her to her iphone and suggested that she needed to get recharged. He said, “Maybe take the WSOP off. Have a party. Invite Anabelle and Liv.” Clearly Marek is not a believer in The Year of the Woman.
Some big names are giving Isabelle company. Men “The Master” Nguyen had a dream run in 2008 but has been in a bit of a struggle since then. Sorel Mizzi had a dream run in March 2010 but has been in a bit of a struggle since then. Now that Isabelle is out I am backing Theo Jorgensen. The top two players have been coming and going but Jorgensen has stuck to the third place like glue and in the manner of a long distance runner is waiting for the opportune time to make the sprint.
