Liv Boeree Cleans Up San Remo

There are so many poker tournaments taking place all the time that usually no one gives a second look at the results. But when a poker babe like Liv Boeree wins a major tournament like the EPT San Remo heads keep turning and the traffic stops. One expects female poker pros like Vanessa Selbst or Annette Obrestad to win major events because they do not have a life away from the tables. But Liv is a hot wire known for more she does away from the tables than what she does on them.

Liv’s achievements begin with her studying astrophysics at the University of Manchester, and studying astrophysics is an achievement. Then Liv was coached by Phil Hellmuth for the Ultimate Poker Showdown, and tolerating Phil Hellmuth is an achievement. Then the long list includes TV presenter and host, reporter, columnist, cover girl, model and last of all poker player.

Coming back to the main news Liv topped the San Remo leg of the EPT. When she made it to the final table in fifth place it was reported that this was as far as she could go. Many were even wondering what she was doing there at all. But Liv turned a deaf ear to the critics, fought her way to the heads up clash with Jakob Carlsson and ended the day being richer by €1.25 million. This is the biggest haul of her life, at least in poker tournaments. Her total winnings to date amount to $1.97 million out of which $1.79 million have come from this San Remo win. Liv has had one first place win before and that was in the Ladbrokes Ladies European Championship in 2008 for which she won $30,000. Her biggest prize money before this has been $40,855 won for coming 37th in Five Star World Poker Classic. This should put in perspective what this win would mean to her.

Despite her live wire image, Liv’s tweets are stoic to the point of being boring. When she made it to the final table she tweeted, “Made the final table of EPT Sanremo – 8 people out of 1240 left!!!” And when she won she tweeted, “Um. I just won an EPT…”. Maybe she was in shock, as many of her male chauvinist critics still are
