2008 Borgata Poker Open Launches Today
The first event at the 2008 Borgata Poker Open begins today, hosted at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The event is a $300 no limit hold’em tournament that is the first of 12 events that lead up to the World Poker Tour $10,000 championship event, which begins Sunday, September 14. In addition to the WPT championship event, the tournament series features 15 initial events with the final one taking place September 16.
Last year, 560 players participated in the WPT event, Roy Winston won $1,575,280 when he overcame Heung Yoon in a heads up battle to take home the title and prize money. This year the WPT championship event will feature a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million.
The tournament schedule also features a $300 ladies no limit hold’em event on September 7, a $300 limit hold’em event on September 7 and a $300 seven card stud event on September 8th in addition to the 12 preliminary no limit hold’em events with buy ins ranging from $300 to $5,000 and the $10,000 WPT championship.
