After several days of late starts and even later nights, a champion was crowned in the EPT Barcelona Main Event. Taking down the top prize of €1,361,000 was player Sebastian Ruthenberg. It was a truly International final table as 7 countries were represented during the final eight hours of play. In addition to Germany which was represented by the ultimate victor (Ruthenberg) and Dren Ukella there were passports from Ireland, Italy, Canada, the US, Belgium, and Demark.

While the first 6 eliminations took almost eight hours of play, heads up play lasted only a few minutes in total. After Ruthenberg took out third place finisher Davidi Kitai with pocket 4’s vs. Kitai’s AQ, he went heads up against Fintan Gavin with a huge 5:1 chip lead. After only two hands of heads up play, the final hand played out. Fintan shoved all of his chips in on the button and Ruthenberg called holding K 9 of clubs. Fintan grimaced and tabled the 4h 7c but caught a lucky 7 on the flop. Ruthenberg then saw his chances increase when a King came on the turn but since it was the third heart on the board Fintan now had a heart flush draw. The 9d on the river made Ruthenberg two pair and sent Fintan home to Ireland €792,000 richer.

For Ruthenberg it was his second major live victory this year as he added an EPT bracelet to the WSOP bracelet he’s already earned this year.
