40th Annual WSOP Kicks Off Tomorrow – Anticipated $40K NLH Special Event
While the majority of online players fight to win their seat to the 2009 World Series of Poker via online satellites and qualifiers the biggest event of the year, (next to the Main Event of course) is set to kick off tomorrow showcasing the $40,000 WSOP No Limit Hold’em special event. This $40K event earmarks the World Series of Poker’s 40 year anniversary and is the highest buy-in across all events.
“We wanted a tournament to commemorate the 40th Annual WSOP in grand style and creating the $40,000 event was a great way to mark the historical significance. The event was created with only this year in mind and we expect it to be a similar field to the H.O.R.S.E. event: Big names, primarily professionals, but an event spectators and poker players alike would want to see.” said Harrah’s Sports and Entertainment Director, Communications.
The best of the best is expected to be in attendance for this prestigious event because of its significance and the huge milestone it holds for the World Series of Poker, not to mention the one of a kind bracelet up for grabs to celebrate the 40 year anniversary of the Series. Unique to other events, the $40,000 NLH event has been revamped to provide players with more chips and more time with this tournament spread across four days and will be broadcasted on ESPN near the end of July.
“With ESPN cameras rolling, a slow structure and 120,000 in starting chips, all of the elements are there to have a terrific, well-played and well-attended event,” said Palansky.

Pokerstars and Full Tilt still lead the way and combined have awarded over 1200 seats to the 2009 Series.
