Matusow May Streak Down the Strip
In the Poker2Nite episode this week Mike Matusow was being interviewed by Scott Huff and Joe Sebok. With these guys as witnesses and on camera Matusow said, “I’ll tell you what: if three women win a bracelet at the World Series of Poker, I’ll run naked down The Strip with a camera behind me. You heard it by me.” One of the WSOP events is a ladies only and that guarantees one woman winning a bracelet. Since no stipulation was made with regards to this, it would technically count as one bracelet, but in the context the reference was obviously to mixed gender events.
The fact is that Matusow was let off too easily by Huff and Sebok. When Huff asked, “… what is your over/under on bracelets in this World Series won by female poker players?” Matusow answered, “I’d put the over/under at a half”. This means that Matusow would have lost if even one female player won a bracelet. That Matusow allowed to get away with three women winning is a weakness on the part of the interviewers.
The number three initially came up when Huff referred to recent wins by three women – Vanessa Selbst at the NAPT Mohegan Sun, Annie Duke at the NBC National Heads up Championship, and Liv Boeree at the EPT San Remo. Matusow dismissed these wins in his brazen style by saying, “… let’s analyze the hands that all these people get their money in on and then miracles roll off. C’mon man…Liv Boeree opened with seven-deuce off suit, was up against Aces, hits runner-whatever…” Such remarks will not make Matusow popular, but then he thrives on unpopularity.
